Why are you pinchin' your eyes together like that, Captain honey?

This particularly goes out to [livejournal.com profile] princessofg, but I'm sure a number of folks on my list will squee a little.

In the mail I've just gotten quite a little treasure called Dr. Demento's Hits From Space". These are classic parody recordings ranging back to the mid-70's. I remember listening to several of these on Dr. D's radio show when I was a teenager. One in particular I used to know by heart, and have been able to quote chunks of it ever since, but haven't actually heard since 1978 (Star Trip, by Congress Of Wonders).

Most of the pieces are about Star Trek in its various guises, which is what made me think of you since you've been posting now and then about Strek. There's some lovely stuff on here. I was convulsed with laughter at "Star Trekkin'", a rhythmic ceremonial celebration of beloved phrases spoken on TOS.

But the standout experience for me is getting to hear a song that I've known about since the 70's, but have never gotten the chance to hear - Banned From Argo, by Leslie Fish, famous fan writer of the time. It's a rollicking folk tune about a particularly brilliant night of carousing by the Enterprise crew. It's wa y fun, and all this brings back my girlhood. *sigh*

So if you're interested in hearing some of this... )

Not the Pointy Hat Trick!!!

OK, so I'm settling into cleaning up and puttering around, so I've just thrown the NPR adapatation of The Two Towers on the player. You all get to be the beneficiaries at a safely vicarious distance. Heehee!

My, that didn't take long! )

More forthcoming.

When I mentioned to Spike that I was listening to this adaptation, and that it wasn't exactly steller, she got this look of horror and said the NPR adapatations were always awful. Apparently, this is not a unique experience. *wibble*
