Have just seen this in the UK and I knew you would have a review of it :D I was dreading seeing this to be honest, simply because I wanted it to work so badly but I shouldn't have worried. By the end of the film I was feeling exactly the same as I used to when TOS was on - hardly able to wait until the next time.
When the film finished and everyone left the cinema, there were a group of people left behind. We didn't know each other at all but we were all of a certain age and we looked at each other and grinned, some punched the air, some hugged. We got chatting, all original Star Trek fans, and then went for a pizza together. It just seemed the natural thing to do. I can't think of a current franchise where that might happen.
