You're likely right about that. It's something I'd been thinking about and trying to understand, and that was the only thing that I could come up with. The idea that Elrond and Isildur were lovers is appealing. It explains a lot of things, and that look on Elrond's face in the scene where Isildur claims the ring seems to support it.
