This particularly goes out to
princessofg, but I'm sure a number of folks on my list will squee a little.
In the mail I've just gotten quite a little treasure called Dr. Demento's Hits From Space". These are classic parody recordings ranging back to the mid-70's. I remember listening to several of these on Dr. D's radio show when I was a teenager. One in particular I used to know by heart, and have been able to quote chunks of it ever since, but haven't actually heard since 1978 (Star Trip, by Congress Of Wonders).
Most of the pieces are about Star Trek in its various guises, which is what made me think of you since you've been posting now and then about Strek. There's some lovely stuff on here. I was convulsed with laughter at "Star Trekkin'", a rhythmic ceremonial celebration of beloved phrases spoken on TOS.
But the standout experience for me is getting to hear a song that I've known about since the 70's, but have never gotten the chance to hear - Banned From Argo, by Leslie Fish, famous fan writer of the time. It's a rollicking folk tune about a particularly brilliant night of carousing by the Enterprise crew. It's wa y fun, and all this brings back my girlhood. *sigh*
...here are a couple of tracks.
Star Trekkin', The Firm. Warning: this is both manic and addictive.
Banned From Argo by Leslie Fish. Drunk and kinky shore leave.
Star Trip, Congress of Wonders. This is very silly stuff, and very specific. If you don't know or care about the subject matter, it won't be funny. But quite wicked in a lot of places.
Enjoy!
