Yes, it was all a joke, more's the pity. There was a clue in the post as to it's being false, but I would have been surprised if anyone had picked up on it. See, Army Archerd doesn't have a column in Variety anymore, because he died three years ago.
A Boy and His Dog would be a hellaciously great film for Elijah, though. It'd be interesting to see whether he could pull off being perpetually filthy and dangerous, along with funny, derisive, rude, horny, and occasionally throwing in moments of tenderness. Vic is supposed to be in his teens, but early 20s isn't unfeasible for him. A kid would grow up pretty fucking fast in that world, otherwise he'd be dead meat, and doubtless he'd look a lot older than he actually is. Elijah playing a character who's never known comfort or safety in his life...wow. O_o
