From The War Room at Salon.com:

In his final "town hall" meeting today, Donald Rumsfeld was asked what books he's read while serving as secretary of defense. He said he read a "great many" books, starting with some about America's revolutionary period before moving on to books about the Civil War. Then, he said, "I stopped." Why? "I found the struggle going on -- Gosh, those years, it's so many people killed, and they were all Americans, except for the foreign fighters ... So I've turned away from that." Now, Rumsfeld says, he prefers to read about World War II.

Next time you *headdesk* be sure to use Rumsfeld's head, it's a lot less painful all round, you won't hurt your head and where there's no brain there's no pain so he won't get hurt either.

Damned inconsiderate for the Civil War having all those Americans dying like that.

Now you see if Louisiana had stayed French and Spain had kept hold of her territories he would have carried on reading, cos then it would be Americans v the French and Spanish not North and South.

It's those damned Europeans again. Ruining his education. :)

Isn't it interesting that he seems to have created a mental "disconnect" between the "tragic" situation of Americans being killed in the Civil War and the equally tragic killing (that he is responsible for) in Iraq. It's like it's not the same thing, like one is bad and the other is...hmmmmm...not so bad?

What bizarre mental illness can create people with such illogical ways of judging atrocity--and to think that our society still "selects" for them and elevates them to positions of incredible power. One wonders (really), given the level of weapons now at their disposal, how much longer this world will survive.

Sheesh, Dubbaya sure knew how to pick 'em, didn't he?

Now, Rumsfeld says, he prefers to read about World War II.

Right, no Americans killed then!!

"Mr. President, I'm really stupid; can I help you rule this country??"

There's just no way you can parse his words to make them sound even halfway sane.

*headdesks with you*
