So after fighting with myself all afternoon, I finally forced myself to get dressed and go to the pub. The place was packed when I got there. The waitress, seeing I had a cane, took me upstairs where there were still tables free. I got put at a table way at the end, so naturally I felt sad and hurt. (Being depressed means everything that happens is awful and meant to MAKE YOU FEEL BAD.) But I made myself (seeing a pattern here?) think, and realized it was because they were just putting people at the end as they came in. More people came in after me and got seated by me, etc.
It turned out to be a great night. I had eats and talked with a couple of people near me. One woman had come with a very sweet dog whom I looked after whenever she went to the restroom. It was fun to hang out with people of the same mind, and snark about the election together.
During Hillary's speech, I started crying. As I had my face in my hands, I felt a hand on my shoulder - the woman next to me. She leaned over and said, "I'm glad I'm not the only one crying". I told her I'd been waiting for this since the 70's, and she said it was the same for her. Then we put our arms round each other as we watched Hillary. I was so full of emotion watching her speak.
Afterward, I exchanged info with June, the woman who'd hugged me. They gave me a ride home, which was very nice of them. It was a good night, and I'm glad I went.
