I actually have high hopes for it. If we don't get too paranoid about having exactly the ST that we personally want (I think we learned that lesson with LOTR?), it'll be pretty good.

I know! I've never had much interest in any of the later series, so seeing a story about my favorite ST is just a delight! Maybe it'll suck, but I don't care. :)

Oh what interesting news. I never cared for the later editions either but I remember the original series with such affection. It just had so much heart and enthusiasm--

How fun to have a remake--I do hope they will recapture the same spirit.

J.J. Abrams is pretty good, so I expect we'll get something good. It can't be much worse than the last couple of films, which I found just as wooden as the NG episodes they're based on. Give me the buckle and swash of the original series, with McCoy all crusty and prejudiced, Kirk the swaggering (overbearing, tin-plated...) Lothario cutting a swath through countless alien bedrooms, Uhura all hot and yummy in her micro-mini... Personality, damnit!
