So, you all know that West of the Moon has now been frozen in time. I'm so glad it'll be there for us all to enjoy for a long time to come, as I still have much to read and squee over! I did my own little posting marathon at the site before it shut its doors. (Though I was surprised at how few of my fics fit the requirements - as I've said before, I'm not good at writing stuff of any real length!)

As a farewell to WOTM's active period, I finished off a fic that I'd started a long time back. Nights Like This began as an idea that lingered but never really reveal itself. But just a few nights ago, I had a strange dream that's still with me. Then when I realized posting the story was now or never, an image from that dream slipped into the unfinished space in the story, and I knew I had my ciao, querido to Shadow's wonderful work.

So here it is:

Nights Like This

(It's not very polished, as I was hurrying to get it done, so it'll probably be edited when it goes on my own site, if and when that happens. But only by a couple of words or so.)

Enjoy!

How can you say this is 'not very polished?' It is beautiful. There is often such a thread of sorrow in your work. Of loss. Your ability to evoke emotion in me is amazing.

Thank you so much, sweetie. For all its beauty and wonder, LOTR is still a fundamentally sad story for me, so that's what comes out most of the time when I write in that world.

How can you say this is 'not very polished?'

That's just my writer's dissatisfaction talking. The piece contradicts itself, and there are a couple of wording choices I'm not happy with, reading it again. (I'd make the first word "Sam" rather than "He", for instance.) But for the most part, it does what I wanted it to, and that's the main thing. :)

Thanks, hon! Yeah, a deadline seems to be one of the few things that will actually spur me to write anymore. 'Swhy I miss [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_smut.

This really was a wonderful read...
I've touched dream sleep like that and it truly can slip easily into reallity...
Frodo would find a way...

Thank you, Shoe. I'm so glad you like it. Yes, sometimes dreams can seem more real than life, especially when you see your heart's desire.

This is powerful and beautiful and though it's filled with a gentle melancholy, there's the hope that Sam and we can cling to, that he will be with Frodo someday.

This is beautiful. Sad, thought provoking, but it ends with hope.

"Loving Frodo, feeling his touch, had been the high starry sky of his life, just as planting, tending and gathering in the garden had been the warm redolent ground of his days"

I loved that line. A very touching and tender 'ghost' story. :-)

Thank you, sweetie! Well, I consider them gifts as well, since I have no idea how they happen. Yay for the gods of creativity; without them, life would be so dull. ;)

Thank you for your kind words. That's the very line where the fic had faded out for so long - it hung there half written for a couple of years. :)

You're welcome to friend me. However, you might want to take a look back through my LJ and read some of my posts. I have very strong opinions and I don't hesitate to talk about something if I feel the urge to do so, and this annoys people sometimes. Fair warning. Feel free to friend once you've decided I'm someone you don't mind hearing from.

On the other hand, if you're just interested in my fic writing, you can see those posts at my fics tag here.
