Speed Racer - trailer
I was a CRAZED Speed Racer fan when I was little. Followed the show religiously and had a MAD MAD crush on Speed. I'm more than a little invested here.
The trailer looks crazy and weird, but it does capture some of that manic, over-saturated, Japanese gameshow/anime sensibility. The casting looks good in some cases - John Goodman as Pops, yeah; Matthew Fox as Racer X, WHOA YEAH. Mom? When did a mom get written in? But hey, Susan Sarandon, so okay. Trixie looks a bit bitchy, but we'll see.
So, considering that I'm STILL pissed at the Wachowskis for how royally they fucked up the Matrix sequels (NO, Larry, your dick is NOT worth killing the world's coolest trilogy over), my bar is set pretty damn high. They had better NOT fuck this one up.
