Well, I guess it's a matter of taste.
I thought it was damn funny. Not as funny as, say, Clerks, but I had a really good time. The cast was excellent, the pick-ups from the old show were way cool, and I LOVE Steve Carell. Anne Hathaway made a great 99, and Dwayne Johnson rocked (pun intended) as 23. Also, yay for Alan Arkin as the the Chief!
Maybe I just expect less from big Hollywood comedies, but I thought for what it was, it was very well done. Certainly entertaining. And the dry wit of the original was definitely there. (Both Mel Brooks and Buck Henry worked on the film.) It didn't make me have any deep existential thoughts or vast epiphanies, but what do you want from a Hollywood remake of a 60's sitcom?
A wonderful summer popcorn movie, this is. That's all I expected it to be, and it delivered with gusto.
