Personally, I do not require that they be The Super Importantest Goals, but I'd like to hear something that isn't trivial. Something that's meaningful to you - though you don't have to say why, it would be cool to hear that too.




My answer of the moment is:

Before I die, I want to climb Mount Fuji and have dinner with Harlan Ellison.

1) Because I have always wanted to see Japan, Fuji is the symbol of Japan, and it would be a wonderful challenge.

2) Because I have always adored Harlan (yes, he's an ass so don't bother haranguing me about it because I STILL adore him), he's had such a profound influence on me in so many ways, and although I've met him before, I've never had the chance to talk with him at length in a relaxed setting.


So how's 'bout you?

Before I die, I want to visit my pen pal in Australia and finally conquer my weight problem.

1) Because we've been writing and talking on the phone for 13 years, but have never met, and he's one of the funniest people I've ever known. It would just be cool to finally SEE each other, you know?

2) Because my weight has prevented me from doing many, many things in my life, and I often feel it strangling me. But there is so much emotional shit around it, and I've yet to find a way to overcome that first, before I can even think about the weight itself.

All righty, here's mine.

1. To get back to Europe. Was only there once, when I was 21, for almost 4 months. It was magical, and I really, really, want to go back.

2. Play in an orchestra again. I was in some sort of orchestra for 23 years (thank God they always need another viola player, no matter how crummy you are) and how I miss that rush. There is nothing like ripping into the ending of the 1812, for an example, with a full-on orchestra and cannons going off in the background too. Very nearly orgasmic, I tell you what. And the last movement of Mahler's 2nd? *dies* Alas, I have not touched my viola since my older son was born, and he is now 22. But some day! *she vows*

I want to live in another country, for even a few months. Mexico is at the top of the list, but I'd settle for Wales, where my mother was from. A little farm would suit me fine, maybe with a few chickens...

I want to see the "next thing"--maybe the next step in human evolution, the beginning of the transformation of humans into something else. Ideally, I'd like to know that humanity and the Earth is going to be OK, but I don't think that will happen in my lifetime (or anyone's lifetime).
