monkeycrackmary's LJ, there's a post about Tijuana Bibles, and a link to an interesting article by Art Spiegelman (he of Maus fame) about these odd little cultural wonders.
Why am I giggling? Well, in the course of that article, he quotes from Philip Roth's immortal Portnoy's Complaint. Which is the reason for my delight.
I shall digress here for just a second. Remember Elijah's wonderfully enthusiastic and deeply silly comment about women's breasts? You do, right? I mean, how could any of us forget? It's certainly one of my favorite 'Lij quotes.
Well, sue me, but given that, I simply could not help hearing these words in Elijah's voice:
Amazing! Astonishing! Still can't get over the fantastic idea that when you are looking at a girl, you are looking at somebody who is guaranteed to have on her -- a cunt! They all have cunts! Right under their dresses! Cunts -- for fucking!
Heeheehee! I'm dying here.

I think I might have to re read "Portnoy's Complaint" and picture the main character as Elijah now. Even the scene where he fucks the slab of meat, American Pie style would have a whole new........
