I use an ecological and very effective metod to avoid ants: talum powder. More scented the baby talc is more ant repelling it is.
In spring usually my house is under ant attack from the garden. I look for the ant enter poin then I sprinkle talcum here and in the near corners of the room. In 30 minutes the ants are gone but I leave the talc for one week to be sure. The ants follow the track smell of their mate; if you cover the track with something more scented they are lost and withdraw.
The metod is unexpensive and with a positive side effect, your room will be talc scented. :) But be carefull to put it only in the corners because talc is slippery.
