Oh, do get a copy. It's been one of my favorites since it came out. Very baroque story, extremely Catholic. Some really fine performances, the star of which is Christopher Walken as a murderous, primordially enraged Archangel Gabriel. I adore his interpretation of the character, because if you read the bible, meeting an angel is far more likely to result in an encounter with that than the pretty friendly spirits we think of nowadays. Angels are not nice, at least to humans. Why should they be? The movie explores exactly those questions. It's fucking brilliant and underappreciated. (Bonus: Elias Koteas plays the lead. While he was still slender and had hair. Oh, so yummy, in a wonderfully dark, tortured, Catholic way. Utterly perfect casting.)
And Viggo. Holy fuck, Viggo. He manages to do the whole hot and sexy Satan thing while at the same time being just skin-crawlingly horrible. He gets the torture that happens in that contrast. I think I'd react just the way Madsen does to his presence. It's fucking magic.
