The last time I came across a character as compelling as Ethan was the HBO series Rome. That series had the same kind of thing going: incredible acting talent, amazing production design, scripts that were a fucking artistic marvel. Another cultured, literay, witty series, with profound depths. Oh, and lots of sex and violence. LOTS. (Though according to one expert on Rome who consulted on the show, not enough sex and violence. Those kooky Romans!)

With this role, Josh has finally grown up as an actor. I've never seen this kind of subtlety and layering in his performances before. He's clicked into this guy in a glorious way, and it is beautiful to watch.

*sigh* I'm just so goddamned PROUD of him. I knew that gawky kid would make it (if he could just keep from becoming a complete pain in the ass). I feel so amazed and blessed to have watched his evolution from the very beginning, before anyone knew who he was. I hope I get to tell him one day.
