Can DVD's be used to store files like Word, or picture files? I've gotten the impression that they can be used to store more than just movies. If so, how would I go about doing that? I usually burn my discs with Roxio or Nero. :)

Yes. You treat them just like a CD, only instead of 700 mgs, they hold 4.2 gigs. I use Nero and just drag and drop like normal.

If I remember correctly I think Nero asks what kind of dvd/cd you want to make and you can choose "data" so that will store all types and you can reload everything on your computer if it crashes :)

Yes, I'm burning one right now. We'll see how it comes out. I've had terrible problems with Nero recently, but just yesterday my computer guy came by and replaced the burner he sold me. Turns out that's what the problem was. So now I'm happily backing up all my files!
