Pfft. I wandered over to a community that I thought sounded interesting, but I couldn't understand how it worked. So I asked a couple of questions. I got a really dismissive answer along the lines of "Read the user info, stupid!". And then my post was deleted.
The really funny thing is the response came from one of those LJ people who love to run around with the kissy-kissy and the "I love you!" happy-crappy. A more polite response would have taken exactly the same amount of effort, but nooooo. Maybe my membership wasn't wanted, who knows?
You know, I've come across a number of instances over the last coupld of years of people saying they're leaving the fandom because of crappy behavior and assholes, and I've gotten to the point where I understand that. When your interest is waning anyway, and you get this kind of shit, it's easy to just roll your eyes and say, "Fuck this, I'm outta here!"
Yeah, I just saw something similar on a community I recently joined. Someone asked a question, very politely, and was basically told to read the rules, in a pretty rude manner. Why do people get so uppity about this stuff? What's the bloody use? Ugh...
I really don't know what is up with that. Here they are soliciting writers to come and join their comm, and when one asks questions, they basically throw insults. Maybe they just don't want to engage in any kind of discussion. I don't know.
Whatever. It was only idle interest, really. I don't have much impulse to write fan fiction these days. I just thought a new comm might get my interest going again, but this has more or less squashed it. I've had enough of this kind of bullshit.
It gets even worse on yahoo groups, at times. I used to be on this LotR fic group, and one time I got into a discussion with someone else, about a fic, and suddenly there was this post from the moderator, saying: 'Enough! If you two don't desist, you both will be removed from this list.' Or something along those lines. After that, I always pictured this moderator wearing a uniform and wielding a whip, or something. Unbelievable... ;)
It's sad that people are ruining it for other people this way, basically, and they don't even know, or they just don't care.
Yeah, it's amazing how a little authority will turn people into tin-plated dictators.
Well, if Congress ends up passing those internet laws, all these little empires will vanish in a puff of smoke, and the dictators will just have to go back to being ordinary people. So much for My Will Is Law, eh?
Yes, the big fishes in the little pond will have to go back to being little fishes in a big pond. How hard it will be on them...
And I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for this bill not to be passed. They can't take LJ and other blog-sites away from so many people! Can't humanity triumph for once over big money?
Funny thing is, those laws are going to devastating to the US economy. A huge amount of business in this country alone has gotten linked into the internet in one way or another. If they start fucking around with it, the consequences are going to be enormous.
But try explaining that to the pinheads pushing this thing. All they can see is their profit margins, which will go into the toilet if they get their way. But they're far too short-sighted to understand that.
Stupidity and greed - a very dangerous combination. It still baffles me that everyone can see what's happening and still no one is able to do anything about it. It's like watching a car-wreck with your hands tied behind your back. It's excruciating...
Thanks, hon. In a way, it was a good thing, because I've had trouble with that person before, and this kinda shoved the last brick into the wall. I'm done with the whole public-nicey-nicey/private-bitchiness crap that goes on in that corner. Good riddance.
Well, at least you found out right away and didn't waste any of your precious time with them. I had a very bad experience (only one, thank heavens) with an LJ fanfic community but it has since been my pleasure to deny their existence--totally. I withdrew my membership. I never go there. I never read their posts. They do not exist. :)

I could blame our culture's penchant for the smart-ass remark, but then I'd have to wave my walker over my head, and well, yeah.

Ah, irony. My favorite flavor.
