I think its meant to be that his actions will speak louder than his words. He's prepared to make ripples with his deeds where people normally use words and do nothing. It's clever in that it makes you watch and a very good contrast to normal campaign vids.

It's the first time I've ever seen a fine art campaign video. That it's so open to interpretation is great, and I'm impressed that Gravel trusts people's perceptions enough to do something like this. Most candidates wouldn't take part, fearing it might send a "wrong message". But not this guy.

I think that's the point - he's not telling you what to think or do. It's up to you what you find in him.

Personally, I think the ad says he's a guy who can look you in the eyes directly, with no bullshit to muddy up the encounter.
