Greetings from LaLaLand!
Monday, August 7th, 2006 01:13 pmMy sister arrived in town late Saturday night, along with Mr. Hobbit and the Fauntling. Joy! I haven't seen her in about 6 years, since her last trip here, which trip included the Night Out To See Dogstar, when we had happy drooling over Keanu and how hot he was, and bitchy snarking over Bret Domrose and how snotty he was. (Non-Keanu fans will not get that last, for sure.)
Anyway, after our first hug, I told her she's just as soft and squishy as I remember (this being a good thing where hugs are concerned). Mr. Hobbit (her husband Javier, who I dubbed so after seeing his picture and realizing he looked just like a hobbit, if a hobbit could be from Andalucia) is jolly and good-natured, and a very funny guy. The Fauntling, whose proper name is Diego, was more or less shell-shocked by jet lag all weekend, and barely made a sound, though he was sweet and allowed copious hugging without protest. Much scarfing of good food.
Last night I went over to Spike's house and gifted her with one of the packages of Lembas Bread* that my sister brought from Seville, and Spike crowed happily. We are in the midst of negotiations to get my sis to ship packages over here a few times a year. She seems amenable, and we are psyched on the possibilities. I am happy.
And how are all of YOU?
* More popularly known as Las Verdaderas y Legitimas Tortas de Aceite de Ines Rosales (The True and Legitimate Oil Cakes of Ines Rosales) - lovely, light, flaky, thin cakes of wheat flour sprinkled with sugar and flavored with anise. Since I first read LOTR, these were what I thought of when I read about lembas, and claims of shortcake notwithstanding, these are what remain lembas for me. My family always brings me some whenever they come back or over from Spain.
