That is one seriously pissed-off dude.

The above is an interview with former Air Force officer Mikey Weinstein, who heads up the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, started to combat the pernicious influence of extreme evangelical fundamentalism in the military. And has he got a story to tell, and not politely, either. This man is deeply angry at what he sees being done to an institution to which he's committed his life. (His family, too - apparently they're soldiers from way back.) And he makes no bones about the fact that he is out for blood, to take down those who would violate the Constitution while in the pay of organizations that are designed to defend it.

Woo-hoo! Pretty damn refreshing, if you ask me. You get used to the idea that the military is just there to defend the status quo and do the bidding of the monkey-men in the WH, and then a guy like this comes along. He does put the lie to that stereotype, and it's such a relief to hear someone in his position being so damn blunt both about the damage being done and about what has to be done to stop it. All the tiptoeing these recent years around these fundie jackasses - oo! mustn't insult their god! he might start to cry! - has been incredibly embarrassing. This is America, which means no religion is above any other, and all of them are both open to criticism and accountable for the results of what they spread.


Please, Mr. Weinstein, do rock on.
