Just recently I've become addicted to documentaries. (Thank Netflix for that one!) I hardly ever watch fictional films anymore, because there's so much to know about in the real world.

So I keep my radar primed for any good docs that come along. Today, over on Glenn Greenwald's column at Salon.com, Pam Spaulding reviews a new one:

I had "friend" in LJ who is homophobic (didn't know it when I friended her) and I pointed out to her that part of the Bible that mentioned other things being an 'abomination' and she threw a fit about me 'turning the words of the Bible upside down' in a way that she couldn't even recognise and if she saw it my way then the sky would fall on her head blah blah blah. Needless to say we're no longer friends.

Imagine if you had explained to her that "abomination" is a mistranslation, and the original word didn't mean "an awful sin", but rather "something we Hebrews don't do". That would have twisted her tail, I'll bet!

Oh I'd told her that I'd read the word was a mistranslation and that it was suggested by scholars that the original word really meant that the subject was 'taboo'. She threw me out with the week's trash.
