Restrictive voter ID laws keep voters from the polls

How in the world did we let these duplicitous, batshit yahoos get a hold of this country?

The funny thing is, I am unaware of any of any allegations of this type of fraud happening in recent elections. On the other hand, I have personally witnessed other types of attempts to prevent fair voting.

That's because there haven't been any. I heard a very interesting discussion on NPR recently on this issue, where a Secretary of State from one of these states came on and explained that there's never been any provable cases of this kind in her state. There HAVE been many cases of ABSENTEE fraud, for which the ID laws would of course be useless. Who have those cases been traceable to? Why, REPUBLICAN culprits, of course.

I still remember a case here in LA, when I was working for a company that processes political petitions. A small election "consulting" firm, conservative of course, had been going into low-income areas and registering voters. Then they took those registrations and THREW THEM IN THE TRASH. It was quite a little scandal, there. The registrations were found, the firm quickly vanished into thin air, and all those voters found themselves out of luck when they went to the polls believing they could vote.

The shit these people get up to is in-fucking-credible. And then they have the GALL to call liberal folks immoral. Feh.

Lots of questionable stuff went on in Ohio in the last presidential election. I live in a rural moderately conservative area--we had plenty of voting booths. In the small city one mile away from my polling place, where there is a very liberal population of students and faculty, people had to wait hours to vote. Some faculty cancelled classes so people could wait in line.

The same thing was true in heavily black neighborhoods in Cleveland-- but people couldn't hang around for hours to vote and gave up.

Because too many of our citizens are dead from the neck up, placated by the celebrity circus that passes for 'news' and STILL unaware of the crimes that have been perpetrated in their name.

I love it that the Bush admninistration has come out againist election fraud.

Bush: I am shocked, shocked, I tell you, to learn there is election fraud going on in this country

Supreme Court (2000): Here is your winning election, sir.

Bush: Oh, yes, ah, thank you very much.

I still can't understand why anyone would believe a word that comes out of that little maggot's mouth. When he started making noises about attacking Iraq, I was stunned that anyone, ANYONE, bought that bullshit. It was so OBVIOUSLY a lie, and yet people took the bait like a fucking sturgeon. It's unreal.

Yes, totally. I have never been so disgusted, revolted, and filled with hate toward an elected official in my life (and I remember Nixon very well).

It *is* unreal. I keep hoping I will wake up and it will be 2000 and I will have a horrid nightmare to tell all my friends about, that I know they will never believe.

The article mentions Michigan as one of the states where there is now a requirement for picture ID to vote, which I experienced the other week at the presidential primary. When you add to that the extensive new requirements that just went into effect to get a new (not renewal) driver's license, that are designed to keep 'illegal aliens' (read arabic terrorists) from getting one, there could be many problems. Fortunately, if you don't have the ID, you are allowed to sign an affidavit at the polls and vote.

(By the way, here in detroit the absentee ballot fraud is usually on the democratic side. the local government here is just as corrupt as anything the republicans usually pull off.)
