Okay, here's something important.

Attachment Therapy - Child abuse and murder disguised as "therapy"

The above is a link to the latest post over at [livejournal.com profile] dark_christian. I'm posting this link because this is something that I believe should be exposed and talked about as much as possible. It's a horrific trend, albeit it a limited one (thank the gods), that must be stopped, and according to the poster over there, the best thing we can do to help is spread the word. So I'm doing that.

You may remember the brief little news flurry a while back about Candace Elizabeth Newmaker, a ten-year-old who died while enduring abusive "therapy" treatments. She was one of the victims of this shit. I'm not going to go into any details about it here. Suffice it to say that, reading through the entry and then going to the new site therein linked that's been opened to inform people of these atrocities, I got sick. Literally. I started feeling buzzy and dizzy and nauseous. It is completely beyond me how such monstrous behavior could even be possible. It is even more beyond me why this is not being talked about in the national media. Where are the investigative journalists? Where are the congressional hearings? Where are the supposed "child protectors"? How can this keep happening without riots? Because if you want to get a look at people who actually deserve to be lynched, take a look at the stories posted on that site. I don't often feel the literal desire to disembowel someone, but you better believe I'm feeling it now.

Please spread the word about this. The best hope for putting a stop to this insanity is for the public to find out what's going on. I'm especially calling on those of you who have journals elsewhere - GJ, IJ, Facebook, etc. - to get the word going outside of Livejournal. There are innocent kids being murdered, in cold blood, by scum who are heartless enough to think they know what's "best", even when that includes abuse and torture. That can't keep going on.

As the Dude said, "This will not stand, man. This aggression will not stand!"

Y'know what gets me the most about this sort of thing, and other stories where kids are routinely, constantly abused? About two years ago exactly, we started having to deal with the DSS, because snobby, well-off b*tches from the I/T program in town who did therapy with my son said our house was "cluttered". Cluttered-- which HELL yes, it is, because it's a small trailer and me and my husband are avid collectors of movies, books up the butt, etc. And YES, it's messy... but our son is the happiest, most well-adjusted kid I've ever met, because we've made HUGE sacrifices so I could stay home with him. He never goes to school sick, because I don't tolerate that bull after working in child care for ten years. He's never had to worry about where he'll be every day--it's always breakfast, school, comes home for videos, small walks, what not. Before that, it was me and him taking HUGE walks (him in a stroller, 'course) all over town, so we could DO stuff. And there we were for a whole year, with even the DSS workers knowing we were hella-good parents despite our self-admitted laziness with picking up around the house.
Mean-the-f***-while, these jackasses are beating, abusing, and killing their kids--? Oh, I'm sorry! Their houses must have been big and pristine, so it's okay! *snarls* That was another thing the DSS people told us--that the ones who abuse their kids the most that they'd seen were people in big, expensive houses with two SUVs in the garage and their own personal law firm. So it's just--these people get away with it, because they're Christian folk, probably well-off and "they're doing what they think is right".
Sorry for the rant... it just gets under my skin that I KNOW I'm a good parent, that I can admit I ain't perfect/I'm lazy... but we'd get called on for stupid bull. Then, in the meantime... this.
*steps off soapbox*

Well, it'd been more assumption than anything. I see what you're getting at. I hope this gets cleared up--noticed and abolished, pronto. So sorry you've had to deal with it. :(
And thank you... we try to be the best-to-our-ability parents to our babe. :)

You're very welcome. I wish you the best of luck in combatting this trend. Have you thought of opening a comm on LJ or any of the other journaling sites? (InsaneJournal is getting to be pretty popular, as well.) I will try to think of other ways to spread the word; please let me know if I can help in any other way.

Right-right. It is a bit soon. But the fact that you're reaching out at all is pretty great. I'm glad to see you had the strength not only to survive, but to start work on combatting this trend. Like I said, I'll be glad to help if I can. *hug*
