You know, to hear some Republicans tell it, questioning Sarah Palin's abilities (or intellect or anything else) is vile and unpatriotic somehow. But I really don't think the extreme trepidation that some of us feel about her either unreasonable or ill-willed. Let's be blunt - the woman had no national presence of any kind before she suddenly appeared on the RNC stage, so it's not very surprising that a lot of people are gonna react negatively to such a strange choice.
But that very pre-campaign obscurity has one point in its favor: it's easy to look harsh when you're criticizing someone you absolutely do not know. So here's a most appreciated link I just came across, that presents the views of the people who really oughta know - the residents of Wasilla, AK.

I cannot conceive of a mindset that would use the phrase "The First Christian Mayor" in freaking AMERICA, of all places. I honestly don't think that, relatively speaking, there's ever been a more Christian country on earth. Not the nation, but the country. It was established by Puritans, how the hell else would it end up? To call herself the first Christian mayor would be exactly the same as John Edwards declaring his candidacy for "The First White President".
Yeah. Imagine the circus.
Anyway (see how nuts she makes me? see?) the above is an absorbing short from a really interesting website. Take a look and hear the views of folks who actually live in the town this woman scarred for life.
By the way, did you know Wasilla was dubbed by Alaska State Troopers "the meth capital of Alaska", owing to its having 42 meth labs inside its limits?

She is making me nuts too - I watched an interview she did with Brian Williams of NBC news tonight - she had such an air of disdain for each question she was asked.
And did you hear her talking about being "in charge of the Senate"?
She is one scary bitch.
