Damn, that really gets me. To quote Jay, I cried "like a little bitch with a scraped knee and shit."

I really can't understand the mindset that denies such things to fellow human beings. Especially Christians - for gods' sakes, didn't Jesus say something about "what God hath joined together" and how we shouldn't "put it asunder"?

I went in purely confident of my own stoicism. I'm bawling now.

Takes about 20 seconds before I start crying. How could anyone be so cruel and cold-hearted?

Especially when Jesus himself said that what God hath brought together, let no man put asunder. What is it with these fundie Christians and their constant insistence on ignoring almost everything the man ever said?

Bloody meddling Mormons would be more accurate. Fuckers can't be satisfied with having an entire state just for them. Noooo, they have to come over here and fuck with people who have nothing to do with them.

But if anyone were to try and go to THEIR state and start some shit with them, you can believe they'd scream bloody murder. Shit, they used to KILL people who tried to keep them from marrying the way they chose. Fucking hypocrites.

I can't watch it because I don't want to bawl right now, but until we "grow up" when it comes to religion as a society, this kind of crap is going to continue. :(((

As much as I believe people should be free to have any religion they choose (so long as they keep it to themselves and don't get it all over anybody else), I have to say that I've always felt Christianity to be an extremely childish religion. Its very structure encourages people to be mean, self-centered, and self-righteous, and to never, ever grow up, no matter what. Pretty much every level-headed, accepting Christian I know has told me about how hard it's been to overcome all the shit in their religion that is hateful and mean-spirited, which is A LOT.

Which is why I gave it up for Lent when I was fifteen. I just can't get with a faith that expects less of me than any high-school teacher, employer, or sane SO. Such low standards their god has. *shakes head sadly*

Yep, its about blindly following rules like a bunch of kindergartners who are afraid of breaking any kind of "rule". Only these rules encourage meanness and closed-mindedness.

If you think the Salem Witch Trials are over, have you heard all the fundies who think they hear "Islam is the light" from some babbling cooing doll? The doll babbles nonsensically but apparently someone somewhere heard "Satan is King" and "Islam is the light". Power of persuasion much? The racist and bigoted things coming from these people's mouths as they talk about what their children are being "exposed to" and forcing stores to take this doll off the shelf...Yeah, Jesus would be all for that. *nods* Not.

God, I really hate organized religion. :( (sorry for ranting sort of incoherently, I'm tired)!

Well, clearly an appeal to their sense of what the Bible says will never work. Like I said above, Jesus said this kind of shit is not on. He also said a ton of other stuff they consistently ignore, in favor of all that blood-and-thunder Hebrew Bible stuff. Let's face it, they're cherry-pickers. It's never really about what the Bible says; it's about what ingrained prejudices they have that they can "support" with verses from what is an extremely patchwork, schizophrenic book. When you're faced with somebody who will pluck a single verse from Leviticus and use it as "law", completely ignoring or explaining away all the OTHER laws in that book because they're "outdated" (or something, I can never follow their insanity), then you're just never going to get anywhere.

I sure wish they'd all go off to Alaska or someplace and let the rest of us live in America. I'm sure Wolf-Killer and her brood will be happy to reign over them as their royal family.

Yeah. In a way, I kind of try not to blame them, poor confused fools. It's damn near impossible to form a coherent worldview out of that book WITHOUT ignoring some of it. When you look at the thing as a whole, it simply makes no sense. Constant self-contradiction, flights of illogic, weird ancient magic, etc. How is a modern human supposed to get anything out of it?

Just goes to show what a trainwreck you get when you try to combine the beliefs and mindsets of two radically different populations, i.e. ancient Hebrews and ancient Greeks. It would be tough to find two more diametrically opposed worldviews.

So they miss the whole "Do unto others..." part in favor of the mean-spirited stuff that I'm sure they're misinterpreting anyway...*shakes head*

*cries*

This is so sad, I can't stand it. It's so fucking ridiculous. Why anybody cares about denying 2 consenting adults the right to get married is beyond me.
