You all know about the Presidential succession letter, right? It's a little White House tradition - the exiting President writes a letter to his successor, with any advice he might want to share about running the place. (If any of you were fans of The West Wing, you'll remember this from the last episode.)
Well...
Obama reads Bush's letter
Just in case you were curious as to what Bush might have to say to the New Guy.
At the White House
Seems there was this old man sitting on a bench across the street from the White House, just chillin'. After a bit, he gets up and goes to the gate, and says to the guard, "I'd like to go inside and talk to Mr. Bush."
The guard replies, "Sir, Mr. Bush no longer resides here. There was an election, and he is no longer the President." The old man thanks the guard and leaves.
The next day, the old man is sitting on the bench again, leaning on his cane and peering at the White House. He again crosses the street and comes up to the guard. "Excuse me," he says. "I'd like to go inside and talk to Mr. Bush."
The guard says, "Sir, as I told you yesterday, Mr. Bush no longer lives here. We had an election, and he is no longer the President." The old man again thanked the guard and left.
The next day, the same thing happens. After watching the White House for while, the old gentleman goes up to the guard and repeats his request. "I'd like to go inside and talk to Mr. Bush."
By now, the guard is understandably frustrated. "Sir, this is the third day in a row that you've come here asking to talk to Mr. Bush. He no longer resides here, as he is no longer the President. Don't you understand?"
The old man smiles and answers, "Oh yes, I understand perfectly. I just love hearing it!"
