Guessing time!

Okay, everyone. Who is this?

Nice outfit, what? So do you recognize this ravishing creature?

This, my dears, is BURT. FUCKING. LANCASTER...

...coiffed and painted and gowned for the lead role in...

...wait for it...

...Kiss of the Spider Woman.

That's right. Burt was the original choice to play the character of Luis Molina, the aging queen who shares a jail cell with Communist revolutionary Valentin Arregui, played by Raul Julia. He was very enthusiastic about playing the part, but his conception of the role clashed rather violently with the ideas that...well, everybody else had. His rewrite of the script pretty much put the nail in the coffin ("gay soap opera" is the way it was referred to by production personnel), and then he had heart surgery and was out, opening the door to William Hurt and his immense, subtle, incredible performance.

What a thing, eh?

I knew he was a guy but didn't realize who LOL

LMAO! I suspect that he was still brooding about having missed out on Some Like It Hot, and was determined to show that he could out-pretty even Tony Curtis. (Oh, no, honey, oh no you can't.)

Yeah, and if this was his "vision"? Yep, I'd have tossed it out in a New York minute, too. However, the pics are truly magnificent. Damn, the man was trying, give him some respect.

Oh, I do respect him. He'd just had a comeback with Atlantic City, and it was damn ballsy of him to jump so enthusiastically at a role that could easily have sunk him permanently. I just don't think it could have ended any way but badly!

give him some respect

Heh - that was meant in an ONTD sort of way ;)

This was after his role in Atlantic City, then? That was pretty ballsy then, because I remember him having a sort of renaissance after that movie.

But Local Hero? Oh, now that was so perfect for him. Damn, I love that movie.

Wasn't it the sweetest thing? And with Mark Knopfler's lovely music. His themes always put a tear in my eye.

I recognized him immediately. Generally, I thought he was ham, but I did enjoy The Swimmer very much.

Yeah, he was overrated in general. I did like him very much in Local Hero, though.

Hello! This is an OT post (well hi there, Mr. Lancaster) to say I enjoyed our geeky conversation on ONTD and to warn you that I drive-by friended you (but will undo so if you wish). Anyone who loves Karl Urban AND Carl Sagan that much is OK by me.

*grin* Yay and welcome!

You might want to look back over my LJ a bit. I'm pretty opinionated and loud-mouthed, and I don't pull my punches. Just a warning. ;)

My shock-o-meter is tuned pretty high--do your worst ;)

I got your KMPlayer comment in my email, but for some reason they kicked me out of the iheart communities :( so I can't reply to you there. When you open KMPlayer, right click on the upper left corner where it says KMPlayer, and then go to the Capture option, and you should be able to figure it out from there. Hope I helped.
