Dom is terribly sweet...

...but then, most of you know (or surmise) that already.

Went to the Best Buy autograph session this evening. Hung with some TORn ladies. Had nice time chatting for four hours while waiting to be let in. Fun conversation and taco-eating.

Ok, enough about that. Here's stuff about Dom...

Not very surprising to find he's much better looking in person. Though he's never been all that attractive to me, I had the suspicion that if I met him it'd be a different story, and lo! it was. Very pretty eyes, and a relaxed, gentle mien. Crazy hair as usual, kind of long but short on the sides, and very bleached out. (Except for the dark roots. Oh to be a guy and not have to care about such crap!)

Now, here's the thing. I don't normally get autographs - never understood the attraction of it. In my whole collection of stuff, there's only one other autograph, and that was got on the spur of the moment. I went to this event for the purpose of giving him a gift, so I figured OK, autograph. He signed my copy of the LOTR FanClub Merry issue, and as he was signing I asked him a leading question to see if he had what I wanted to give him. It turned out he didn't, and the gods granted me the cool opportunity to grin and pull it out of my bag. He was surprised and pleased, and when I told him it was my personal copy, he said "I'll treasure this. I will." Which filled me with joy, cause how often do you get to give back to someone who's made you so happy, by giving them something they actually want to receive?. (Besides, I just love to give people presents.)

Then - oh dear, I have to admit this - as we were saying so long, I leaned in close and he leaned up and we had a little kiss. Oh squee! (sheesh, I feel like a schoolgirl) Hey, it just happened on its own. I swear I wasn't being grabby, really! But I'm a very huggy, touchy person, and it really feels wrong to end a nice conversation or encounter without some kind of contact. So without even thinking, I found myself going for it, and he was completely casual and accepting about it. Lovely.

So I'm glad I went, and very, very glad I got to meet Dominic. He's a doll, and very yummy, and I get the Dom thing now. He still ain't gonna dethrone my darlin' Elijah, but I sure wouldn't kick him out of bed for eatin' crackers.

Oh, thanks for sharing your "story." I think these experiences will be great to remember down the line when everything is really over.

I'm sure you will be happy to have the autograph--and on the Merry issue too, how perfect. Although I agree with you about them and I have never sought autographs either, sometimes one must make an exception. :) I became a Dom fan late in my "fandom" too but I agree that he is very sweet and attractive (although not numero uno of course).

Oh, I'm glad to have the autograph, if only as a reminder of a nice encounter. And it would have seemed odd to go through that line and not have asked for it - might even have seemed a bit insulting, so I went with the flow. It was such a fun evening. :)

And yeah, well, he's European, don't you know. So he's cool with the huggy thing. I'm so glad my folks are from the Old World. So many folks here are uncomfortable with touching, kinda amkes me feel sad for 'em. There's nothing like a sweet friendly hug or kiss - if everyone did it, there'd be a lot less trouble in the world, methinks.

Ay, the Dom vibe. Jeez, it's hard to pin down, at least from my perspective. He just seems like a sweet, down-to-earth, friendly guy. Nothing incredibly unusual or heart-staggering. The kind of good guy you could run into on the street, you know? Real. So often I look at these actor dudes and they don't seem quite real, like they only exist in a glass case or a magazine page. But like his fellow hobbits, Dom's got a very real vibe. A touch of college-slacker energy, too. Laid-back. I experienced a keen hunger to kick back and smoke some weed with him. I bet he'd be fun to get stoned with - I wonder what he'd get the munchies for?

As for what I gave him, it was a videotape of a rare film. :)

Oh, I'm so glad you got to meet him!! Meeting Dom was one of the highlights of my Oscar trip, and I felt so bad about you missing that! This kind of makes up for it a little bit, eh? Aw, thank you, hon. It was very nice to meet him, indeed. Had the line been more relaxed and the opportunity come up, I'd have made a joke about inviting him out back to burn a fattie, just to see what he'd say! Maybe next time.

I was with some TORn people, who I'd met through the message boards there. CAhobbit, Roheryn and Joelle were three of them. And also hobbitsandkilts was there. It's so interesting to be at these events and wonder how many of the people there I know from LJ or TORn. Strange to know and yet not know so many folks, isn't it?

This is just adorable! And OMFFFFF you got a KISS from Dom AND Elijah? (Now to just have both occur simultaneously while you're in the middle .. . mmf no, stop that ffs!) Seriously, you are gifted when it comes to knowing how/what/when to gift! That is an art and shows good judgement, attention and delicacy. I know it's not the cause of the encounter being great, I'm sure Dom would be sweet with just a few words and a smile from you, but it does create a difference in the hours of meeting fans and he would appreciate that special bit of research and effort. Dom, I always think, is deceptive, he appears to be a slacker type and have a cool breezy demeanour but he is so smart, he notices EVERYTHING and is aware of all that is happening 360 degrees around him, no matter who you are. When I saw him in 2007 he managed to crack up everyone who met him for a photo op individually by gently and funnily remarking on some aspect of their appearance, mannerism or request, giving them instant nicknames etc. He asks questions and always seems actually interested in the person he's meeting. Just like the other hobbits, that seems to be his real nature. Maybe it is even the mark of a true deep-down-natural actor, this ability to really observe not just surface details but the emotional content of a situation. Anyway, I'm rambling because you reminded me how cool he is and I love that you had such a sweet meeting with him! I can so understand why he and Elijah are friends. Can you just imagine the laughs and classic times they must have had together? Both so fond of good fun and celebrating life. Just like you xxx

What I gave him was a copy of this: The Man Who Planted Trees. At the time it was only on VHS, and I gave him my own copy. I've often hoped he watched and enjoyed it, as it's an incredibly beautiful film, and he was very into tree activism at the time.
