You haven't seen this film? Oh, you must. That, my dear, is Johnny Depp. He plays John Wilmot, a.k.a. the Earl of Rochester, a 17th century poet who famously drank and debauched his way to an early grave, only to earn posthumous critical acclaim for his life's work. The film is as much about his time, the Restoration era of Charles II, as it is about him, and it's really incredible.

Wasn't it extraordinary? That introduction, man. I remember thinking, Aw, Johnny, of course we'll like you! Then at the end he comes back and says "See? I told you!" and I'm thinking, Shit, he was right! Wonderful and awful and disturbing. Great work.
