Great Goddess. When did we turn into such a bunch of whining kiddies? When did a jest become the same as a physical attack? When did we get so damn paranoid that the ability to laugh at a silly joke gets equated with bigotry and hatred?
Whatever happened to a sense of humor? I can remember when one of the marks of a civilized person was the ability to smile and just ignore a joke one did not like. When did we get the idea that every little thing must be turned into a crusade, that a snicker is somehow indicative of murderous intent, and that life must be one long parade of eggshell-walking, looking over our shoulders at every step to make sure our words might not harm someone's fragile little psyche?
Does no one understand the concept of a thick skin anymore? That there are things in life that simply aren't worth making a fuss about? That what people actually DO is far more important than what they SAY? That it's possible to laugh at something without hating it, or wanting to stomp it out of existence? When did we become such a bunch of goddamn wet blankets?
I would say I weep for the future, but I deliberately took myself out of the breeding game, so I could care less if the world becomes a gray and humorless prison. I'll be heading for the Blessed Isles, thanks, where I can hang out with people who still know how to have a good time without getting their panties in a twist.
I repeat - FEH.

Date: Saturday, July 10th, 2004 11:09 pm (UTC)Some things are worth making a fuss over. Some things aren't. I've found that over time I've become less sympathetic to people who rend their garments and gnash their teeth over someone's innocuous not-PC joke, or comment, or fandom nonsense. I'm not interested in anyone's crusades either. *shrug*
