I agree. These are some of my favorite of all images. I find them not only beautiful but also deeply frightening in some spiritual way. They are so extremely other, an intimation of, as you say, how utterly small we are. And yet, it is from places such as these that we all originate.
Look at your hand. Right now, look at it. Consider this: every single atom in that hand is constructed from elements that have their origin in the hearts of stars like the ones in that picture. Every particle of matter in the Universe is derived from the original element, hydrogen, and had its birth at the First Moment. Your hand is literally fifteen billion years old. Think about that. We are not, after all, as small or insignificant as we seem. We are the children of those enormous giants of creation.
