So I take it some of you saw rakshi's post about the Sam and Bill statue today? If you haven't, go take a look:

It occurs to me that this would be a FANTASTIC holiday gift for dear Rak! So here's what I'm thinking.

How many of you would be willing to chip in for this piece? I figure if we can get 30-35 people willing to contribute $20, we can get it for her. I have an eBay seller account with a high feedback rating, so I'd be willing to be the buyer for it. But we'd have to get the money together pretty quick, as I don't have $700 to front this!

I've already emailed the guy to see what his state of mind is, and he seems quite reasonable. He has already told me he'd be willing to hang onto it for a good down payment, which I figure would be about $200, then the rest could come in a couple of weeks or so. But the thing is, we'd have to move on it FAST. I've seen this statue go for over $3,000 on eBay, so at $700 it'll get snapped up pretty quickly. So who's with me? Even if you can't afford the $20, you could help out by contacting other friends of Rak's and letting them know what's going on. They can email me at serai1@livejournal.com.

Just so everyone knows, I will not only be contributing a share, but will also pay for shipping to my address and then to Rakshi's at holiday time. (I think around December 1 would be safest, don't you?) I figure everyone who contributes can send a card or handwritten note for Rakshi to me, and I will include them all in the box with the statue.

So if you want to be part of this special project, please respond below as soon as you can, or email me. Time is of the essence on this thing, and I think it would be an incredible surprise for her! And the gods know she deserves it.

ETA: The seller has confirmed a down payment of $200 would be good for him. He thinks the scheme is a great one, and is willing to help us out this way, which I think is mighty fine of him. So please get the word out quick!

ETA2: It is midnight here in LA, and I have $160 committed so far ($180, counting my share). blackbird_song, grievousangel, empressaurelius, aprilkat, and wyvernwell have all signed on so far. :)

ETA3: WOW!! It's now 6:30 a.m. here in LA, and we have $380.00 towards this great purchase! I've gone ahead and done the bid on the statue, and will now email the guy and let him know it's a go. Let's keep getting the word out. Rak is so loved, I'm sure we can get the rest of the pledges together by the end of the week. I'll be emailing everyone who's already signed up to let them know how to get the money to me. Everyone who's on the signup list will receive email copies of my payment receipts to the vendor, so you'll all know it's on the up and up.
