OMG, I got to meet Sean!
Ahem.
First, a wonderful long wait of the whole afternoon hanging out with other LOTR fans. It was great fun sitting around and arguing fine points of Sam/Frodo vs. RSF, etc. Plus very healthy doses of Sean snuggies and Elijah squeeing. Spike showed up about a half-hour before the signing, because she said she just had to come and witness the squee. It was fortunate that she did, cause it turned out pics could only be taken "at a distance" (meaning we couldn't ask to have our picture taken with Sean), so she manned the camera for me.
Sean came in, very upbeat and gracious and funny and sweet, just as one would expect. He looks very good - trim and fit and healthy. I LOVE the shaggy hair on him; it's much more fetching and complimentary to his features than the shorter cut. He spoke for about 15 minutes, telling us about his history with LA and specifically the Westwood area, and then he started signing.
Oh my, he was so sweet with everyone! It was a pleasure to watch him. I was about the 15th person in line, so the wait wasn't long at all for me once he got there. And ohohohoh!!
He was lovely. Smiling, he took my book and signed it. He smiled right at me, and it's true that he makes you feel like you're the only person there. I gave him a card that I had made for him - I printed my ficlet Watching Over You on glossy photo paper, just the way it is on my LJ with the photo from ROTK, and inside the card I wrote a message of thanks and good wishes for him. There was no time for him to read it there, but he thanked me sweetly, and I hope he enjoys it.
And then as I was going to go, he stood up and shook hands with me. He called me by name and said, "I hope I see you again," looking intently at me with those lovely hazel-green eyes and smiling. Now, I know enough not to take something like that too personally, but he certainly made me feel, just for a second...I don't know. You know? It was wonderful.
He was so kind and thoughtful with everyone. I hung about a little distance away for a minute or two to watch him sign some more. Then, just as I had suspected I might, I felt myself choking up, and there were tears, and I turned to Spike and said, "I have to stop watching him now." And I walked away and cried just a tiny bit. Spike hugged me and told me I did good. (I had been seriously afraid of embarrassing myself in front of him. Thank the GODDESS he wasn't doing the huggy thing - had he put his arms around me, I know I would have burst into tears!)
All in all, it was just a lovely experience. I am SO glad I went - he is such a darling. And seriously, what a babe!
Here are a couple of pics. Unfortunately the pics did not turn out well. Most of them were very blurred (my camera isn't very good for indoors). Spike was very apologetic, but hey. It's not an expensive piece of equipment, and the pics weren't the point of the thing anyway. I don't need pics to remember this by, believe me! But here are two that weren't too blurry, and you can see how good he looks now.
Here he's signing for me.

And this one is just after he's finished.

Yummy man!
Squee! *sigh*

ETA: Did anyone record Sean's appearance on Dennis Miller's show? If so, could I get a copy? I didn't get a chance to see it! WAHH!!

Did he have time to sign other things besides books, or was it just his book?

I know exactly what you mean. It's a wonderful gift he has. I think I'll go look at my sexy Sean wallpaper now. ;-)
