I was just thinking about Casey and Zeke and Josh and Elijah, and a thought occurred to me that I don't think I might have mentioned in the past.

I got to meet Elijah at two of the ORC conventions, little brief line encounters. The second time we talked for a minute about a present I brought him, and that's when this hit me. It wasn't a really forceful feeling; in fact, it didn't really freak me out until later. But, man.

How fucking weird was it that Elijah Wood is taller than me?

Does that sound stupid? I imagine it does. But dig this: I'd been enjoying his performances since he was a tiny wee thing, so up until and through LOTR, he had always been smaller in my imagination, because he'd always been either a kid or a hobbit. And that impression lingered despite seeing him in other parts.

So when he slid off that tall stool and spontaneously hugged me, there was a definite thread of disorientation at the fact that he was looking down at me - the overhead lights were cut off from his face just a bit because it was leaning towards me. That is a hella strange memory, it went so much against the sensory logic of how things ought to be at that moment in time. Like some little part of me realized, Oh fuck, you're a MAN.

It was subtle. It was bizarre. It was wonderful. It was a paradigm-shifting moment, albeit a small one. It was delicious beyond words.

And I would still give every last drop of blood from every person I've ever met to fuck that guy. Yeah, and I'm only half kidding. Don't lie, so would you.

I read your post about meeting Elijah and had to respond because it made me so happy for you. You really do have some lovely memories.

I've been lucky in my encounters - those I haven't made a fool of myself during, of course. But you know, given that I'm not anybody and have little to no chance of ever running into any of these people again, even those were worth the embarrassment, for the sake of the sense impressions and memories. To my dying day, I'll never forget the feel of Elijah's lips on my forehead, or Keanu's sides and back when I slid my arm under his jacket, or Dom's beard when he kissed my cheek, or Eugene's arms when he bear-hugged me after I tackled him. It's been an amazing decade, to be sure. (Though I do wish I'd had the chance to converse with Zach Quinto, who used to live a couple of blocks from me, and who I used to see around all the time. Never quite happened, though.)

It's so funny, but I had that reaction, too, when I met him at ORC! I had this weird impression like he was about my height (5'2"), but he was not only taller than me, but he seemed so broad in the shoulders, more so than I was expecting.

ha, and I apparently accidentally touched his crotch during our picture, which others told me about, and I have no recollection of (*sigh* why can't I remember?) and he said, "Wicked!"

Yeah, he's got about four inches on me. The bulk thing didn't hold the day this happened, because he'd been starving himself to try and get the Iggy role, so he was whip-thin. But yes, that was definitely a man's body. >:P~~~

I know exactly what you're talking about dear. I'm taller than Elijah (even in my flat feet) but esp. in the last five years, I've been struck by the inescapable fact that wee Elijah IS a grown man - slight, but so perfectly formed and elegant. And deceptively strong - Wicked Strong! Oh, and about that last bit in your posting -- mama would hit that three ways from Sunday!!!!

He is taller than me and honeyandvinegar as we found when we met him. It surprised me as journalists always seemed to go on about him being really tiny although I didn't think it was correct, as I had met Dom by then and knew he was at least as tall as Dom. He wasn't overly skinny then but just slenderly muscular. How I wish there had been more time to take in his lovely face. If he had been smaller than me I would have just wanted to have him sit in my lap like the Intel commercial. Maybe I still would. Yum.

Those encounters are so frustrating because they're so short. But still pretty wonderful. At least the whole thing was much too structured for me to do something silly and make an ass of myself, like I did with Eugene.

While we're at it, here's my encounter with Dom, if you're interested. Heehee, he was so sweet.
