DON'T PANIC

Saw Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy this weekend. Very funny. Well-adapted, well-cast, fast-moving, witty, all of that. Sam Rockwell is brilliant as Zaphod - egotistical, handsome, loud, obnoxious, sexy. Everything Zaphod should be. (Spike says he reminds her of Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire. I agree; though Zaphod does lack Lestat's suavity, he has the same King-Turd-of-Shit-Mountain vibe.)
And goodness! There is a supporting cast of KnittedSpaceTravellers in this film! Their appearance is, alas, all too brief, but they acquit themselves handsomely. I do hope
knittedmerry and
knittedpippin have a chance to see this film, and check out the work being done by their, uh, countrymen (?). No, that's not right. Uh, fellow KnittedPeople. Yeah, that's it!
All in all, definitely a recommendation here. Keep in mind the usual caveats (book-to-film, not everything could be crammed in, some new developments, etc.), and you should be fine. And since it's been said that some of the new developments were Adams's ideas anyway, I think it's a fine adaptation, and look forward to the next one. (Yes, the film is set up for a sequel. It's only based on the first book, anyway, so it looks like they'd like to make Restaurant at the End of the Universe, at least.
GO SEE. FUNNY.
