serai: A kiss between Casey Connor and Zeke Tyler (Ethan Sorry Not Sorry)

Oh, for fuck's sake

.
The latest on the PD fiasco, and I'm hating Logan even more now. Turns out the reason they quit is the ONE reason nobody would have been pissed off about, and it is this:

Eva couldn't take it anymore.

Back in the middle of season TWO, she told them she wouldn't go past season three. WHY DIDN'T THEY SAY ANYTHING??? "No, she must be FORCED to go on!" is a thing no PD fan would say EVER.

If they'd only told everyone at the start of season three, "This is our last season. Our leading lady isn't up to being bashed around and required to rip herself open every episode anymore. We've worked hard on this last season, so everybody give her a big hand!" THAT would have been the way to handle it, and all the fans would have said "Well, DUH. Not surprising she wants out!" And we all would have been weepy and then gotten into the third season.

But this bullshit of LYING over and over - it turns out she refused to continue to the SEVENTH proposed season, not five, not six, certainly NOT three - only pissed everyone off and ruined the ending for most of us. Had we known what was coming, had we known WHY, I think most everyone would have accepted, with grace good or ill.

*sigh* Why do Hollywood people have to be so goddamn STUPID?

ETA: The most damning bit is that the series ended not just because Eva couldn't go on, but subsequently because Logan couldn't think of a way to continue without her. Really, dude? Okay, bullshit again, because either you just admitted you're a really lousy writer (with all those other characters, there was NO WAY to continue?) or you just flat out quit because you didn't feel like doing it without that character. Either way, you clearly don't realize you just told us you're a dick.

But we knew that already..

Never watched this show but the bullshit still reeks.  :/

As wonderful as she was in the role, they could have recast, or just written her character out, but instead, everyone else loses their jobs because she didn't want to go on. And there were many more stories to tell, many more classic characters to incorporate into their stories. Just doesn't make any sense to scrap the whole project because of one person.

Oh, apparently they ended the show because they COULDN'T FIGURE OUT how to continue the story without her. Really? Really, Logan? You're THAT bad a writer, that you can't adapt your story to the vagaries of reality? Jesus CHRIST.

It is pretty lame that a mind that came up with this badass concept couldn't find a way around the departure of an actor/character. I feel bad for Josh and the other actors who no doubt expected to have several more years of steady work.

I can well imagine how wracking this role must be and she has been so generous with it, holding nothing back. I agree, it would have softened the blow if they'd just been honest about it. Plus she's still young and must have so many ambitions to play different parts but with her being in every episode she was much more restricted than the other actors. That was a serious mistake to zero in to one character instead of keeping the stories more evenly distributed. They could still have carried on with Ethan and I think Josh was told that his character would be developed through several seasons so I'm sure it was a shock.

I added an ETA. Man, I thought it was only government people who still believed they could bullshit the public and never be found out. Get your head out of the 20th century, dude. Someone always finds out.

You know, if the thing ended because of Eva, I'm sure Josh knew perfectly well what was happening. The actors she worked with most closely would know it was wearing on her. She and Billie Piper bore the brunt of most of the emotional work on the show, as I see it. That's one of the things I regret most about losing this show - it's very feminist. The deepest and most intense stories belong to the women, they all suffer more than the men do**, and their particular kinds of suffering all illustrate real issues that don't get talked about onscreen much. It was a voice that I'd hoped would be around for a while, saying things that should be said.

**With the exception of late addition Catriona, and it strikes me just now that that's another reason she doesn't fit, for me. She's a bit too yaya for this series, she's... steampunky. If the rumor is true that there's going to be a comic book, I'd be yet again more pissed off at Logan for shoehorning in a character that had no place in the tv series while being an obvious comic book cliche of a "cool girl". BLECH.

The whole thing is so disappointing. *sighs*

Seriously? I adored Vanessa but there were far more characters and stories unexplored, plus if Eva Green gave notice during S2 it doesn't explain the weird pacing of S3 with the glacial start and the frenzied race to the finishing line.

I heard it was because Showtime cancelled and didn't give them enough time to wrap up the show properly? I can believe that this took a toll on Eva but it's completely ridiculous for the writing to go downhill because of her. Yes, she was the main draw but there were other characters. Absolute fuckery all round.
