The words are from a Pablo Neruda poem that I translated a while back. Don't have my translation in front of me at the moment, but I'll edit to add it when I get home from work this evening.
Hey, Serai - a completely OT question after the story: One of my dearest friends, after whom my elder daughter is named, just lost her beloved young feral rescue cat ('Samwise' - whose gentle little heart gave out); with her permission, my younger daughter (Sarah) and I found a teen ocelot spotted tabby (with whom we've fallen in love). She is considering naming her for my daughter.
Is 'Serai' a form of 'Sarah'? Is there a meaning to it? Such a pretty name, and exotic, like the kitten (and you!). Would you mind if I suggested it?
I've been told that the original form of Sarah is "Sarai", which means "princess" in Hebrew. However, Serai is not derived from that. It's the name of a character in a fic I never quite wrote, and it's Harad. (At least, that's what she told me.)
You are a dear - and the lovely name deserves a story. You know, it is very Tolkien for names to evoke meanings from themselves and their sounds. 'Serai' does that. Thank you for letting me suggest it!
He is, isn't he? Adorable and cuddly, geeky and silly, all mussed or all dressed up like a grownup, he's just beautiful. And so is the icon, by the way.
