Because Poe wrote on both!
Monday, October 24th, 2005 08:25 am1. So. I put my life in the hands of the Goddess yesterday and picked up a couple of hitchhikers.
Just kidding. I'm not that paranoid. But after 10 years in L.A., I guess I'm nostalgic for Santa Cruz, where I used to do it all the time. And after that much experience, you acquire some instincts. When I was driving the long on-ramp near my house, I saw two young guys, one with his thumb out, and my little KarmaLightTM started flashing. They just felt harmless.
And so they were. Ryan and Chris, brothers from Palmdale, stranded in L.A. They were very sweet and polite, thanked me several times. We made a little chitchat while Tom Waits graveled and screamed in the background, and I let them off in Burbank, which is where I was headed. They thanked me again as they got out. Blessed me, even! It was nice, and I always try to rack up KarmaPointsTM whenever I can, you know. Who knows if I might be in the same fix someday, hoping for a little unselfish help?
2. Casey has finally learned not to use me for a sitting perch while I'm asleep. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to be wakened up from a perfectly good sleep by a cat looking for a self-heating cushion? Argh. But last night she padded up very quietly just as I was dropping off, and settled down next to me. Didn't move the whole night, either; she only got up when the alarm went off and I said good morning. Ha! Got that down. Now, to deal with the jumping up on the furniture.
3. How cool is it to have a work assignment that pays well, has very little actual work involved (boss out in meetings a lot), and includes a DVD player on the computer? I'll be plugging in a rented copy of Batman Begins in a little while here. Life is nice this week.
ETA: Wouldn't you know it? The day I decide to crow about how cushy this job is, the boss has me working on short-deadline stuff all day. Hahaha, spoke too soon! That'll teach me to attract the attention of the gods. Really, I oughta know better by now. So you're job's way cush? Watch THIS! *g* Well, at least the stuff wasn't difficult at all, just typing and formatting some documents. Guess BB will wait 'til I get home. Mmmm...Bale.
4. *eyeroll*

3. Sounds like the perfect job to me.
4. *joins you in eyeroll*.

Date: Tuesday, October 25th, 2005 04:03 am (UTC)On #1, go you. Random acts of kindness cannot be overrated, I say.
And on #2, my hefty pair will invariably stomp all over us when they feel we've slept in long enough on a weekend (like, say, 7:30 or so). Works like a charm, that does.
