A little FYI

Over the last three weeks or so, I've been going through a bit of a renaissance with LOTR. It started with listening to the Rob Inglis readings during a very boring data entry job. My, those readings are gorgeous. As is the full-length reading of The Silmarillion. So that got me into reading Tom Shippey, and that led me to order a number of books about LOTR from Half.com. I'm currently having great fun rediscovering my love for the books, and all the beauty that I originally found there. Fandom/slash had really veered me way off course from what I had originally loved about Tolkien, and it's lovely finding it all again.

The CD adaptations have helped a great deal in that regard. Hearing a number of different voices interpreting these characters has helped to minimize the effect, however beloved, of the films on me. Even the American voices in the NPR adaptation are useful to me; it's an interesting experiment.

So, to get to the why of this post.

All of this has gotten me thinking about things. And the last couple of days have pointed out some stuff, too. To wit: once again, I find myself re-examining my LJ activity. I've looked at my friends-list, and noticed once again that there are quite a number of people on it with whom I seem to share little or nothing as far as interests. In the last few months, a very sizable number of posts on my f-list have gotten little to no reaction from me at all. There are at least a couple of people who post only related to fandoms I don't share. And so on.

So I'm going to do a trim. I don't think there's anybody on the list at this moment that I dislike or have tiffs with. (I don't think so, anyway.) So if any of you find yourselves off my list, realize that it's not a "Go away, you annoy me" kind of thing, more a drifting-apart kind of thing. If any one finds herself off and wants back on, feel free to email me or leave a comment on one of my open posts. And of course, if nobody gives a fuck, then whatever.

Once I do that, I'll see what's what.

Of course you'll stay, hon. You're one of the few people on my list who still posts about LOTR. Plus you're just lovely anyway. *mwah*

I don't always comment, but I always enjoy your posts, and I still love LotRs.

Well, even though I haven't posted much and when I do, it seems to be boring RL stuff, I'm still very much into LOTR. I can't really get into any other fandoms, including DD, so I'm happily over here in my hobbit haven.

I hope you'll keep me on your flist if only because you're one of the few people left on *mine* that is still back here in the old fandom.

And plus, I owe you more Dream in the Black Land panels, which now that I'm unpacked, I should get to soon, since I have my original panels and sketches back in my possession!

I have all three sets of the Rob Inglis CDs, and bought a 5-CD player just so I can lay in bed at night and be talked to sleep by that beautiful voice. I love his Sam, and his Merry - their accents are delightful. I've only gone all the way through them once, because once we get into RotK, it is just too hard emotionally. It's really hard to explain to someone that you are a wreck because two little hobbits are suffering in Mordor ... they give you the oddest looks...

I'm rubbish at commenting, lately, but LotR is the reason I started writing fan-fiction, and remains my reason for staying on LJ. I'm sorry to whine and ask you to keep me, but I truly want to read what you have to say about LotR and other subjects.

That said, I understand and accept fully your need to work within your comfort level, and don't want to impinge on that. Thank you for all you have done, and for allowing me to be on your flist to this point.

Catherine
