A little FYI
Sunday, October 30th, 2005 10:03 amOver the last three weeks or so, I've been going through a bit of a renaissance with LOTR. It started with listening to the Rob Inglis readings during a very boring data entry job. My, those readings are gorgeous. As is the full-length reading of The Silmarillion. So that got me into reading Tom Shippey, and that led me to order a number of books about LOTR from Half.com. I'm currently having great fun rediscovering my love for the books, and all the beauty that I originally found there. Fandom/slash had really veered me way off course from what I had originally loved about Tolkien, and it's lovely finding it all again.
The CD adaptations have helped a great deal in that regard. Hearing a number of different voices interpreting these characters has helped to minimize the effect, however beloved, of the films on me. Even the American voices in the NPR adaptation are useful to me; it's an interesting experiment.
So, to get to the why of this post.
All of this has gotten me thinking about things. And the last couple of days have pointed out some stuff, too. To wit: once again, I find myself re-examining my LJ activity. I've looked at my friends-list, and noticed once again that there are quite a number of people on it with whom I seem to share little or nothing as far as interests. In the last few months, a very sizable number of posts on my f-list have gotten little to no reaction from me at all. There are at least a couple of people who post only related to fandoms I don't share. And so on.
So I'm going to do a trim. I don't think there's anybody on the list at this moment that I dislike or have tiffs with. (I don't think so, anyway.) So if any of you find yourselves off my list, realize that it's not a "Go away, you annoy me" kind of thing, more a drifting-apart kind of thing. If any one finds herself off and wants back on, feel free to email me or leave a comment on one of my open posts. And of course, if nobody gives a fuck, then whatever.
Once I do that, I'll see what's what.
