Looking for technical advice

Can anyone make recommendations for me as to how to set up a recording system on my computer? I'd like to make mp3 files of spoken word stuff. What hardware and software would I need to make nice recordings?

Røde makes a nice one that we use to record vocal concerts very succesfully, and they have doubled nicely for performance, so I can't imagine that they'd be anything but great for spoken word work. The model we have is the NT3, and I don't know whether they make it anymore or remember how much it cost.
Best of luck!
