*jumping up and down with anticipation*
I couldn't tell you just why I'm suddenly so thrilled by this. Over the last few days, since I saw the new trailer at the theatre, I've been on pins and needles. I watched the original the other night, and a copy of the second film is on its way from Netflix.
Really, it was the first trailer that did it for me. I saw it in April, I think, and hearing the music from the original film in it almost made me shriek with delight! (Seriously, I had to cover my mouth.) Honestly, it's all so... Remember seeing the first trailer for LOTR, and realizing that they'd got it right? This is like that for me. After that Nicolas Cage nonsense, I'd totally given up hope that this might not suck.
But thank the gods for Bryan Singer, who is no slouch! Like PJ, he realized No, you can't fuck with this. There can be no sly winks, no campy derision, no nihilist deconstruction. Not with this guy. It's all or nothing. He's either the Man of Steel, superhuman demigod from a distant galaxy, paragon of Honesty and Strength and Just Plain Fairness, or forget it. (Now, Lex Luthor, on the other hand...)
So am I delighted? Yes. Am I impatient? Yes. Am I squealing? Like a stuck pig.
Yes, I am.
P.S. I'd kill for that poster. Well, maybe not kill. But I'd definintely set fire to some great public building.

Date: Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 05:12 am (UTC)Chris Reeve was so utterly, brilliantly perfect in the original. (Shed a little tear watching him again.) I am so glad that Singer went looking for a guy who not only has a similar look, but clearly is playing the same Superman. Happy day! And Kevin looks like he's having WAY too much fun as Luthor.
There's a wonderful little documentary on the site where you can see Singer discussing his ideas about the film. And did you know the original took 19 months to shoot?
