So here I am at work. The pain subsided around 1:00 last night, but is not gone. It's down to a slight achiness all through my gut plus a hot spot here and there. It was not a digestive problem, as I originally thought. Great.

I've been alerted to the possibility of appendix problems or diverticulitis. Beautiful.

Seeing as I am uninsured and have no money to pay doctors, the whole thing is moot because I can't do a thing about it. Fabulous.

If I disappear anytime soon, you'll know what happened.


Sorry to be so grim, but now you know one of the prime reasons I fucking hate the way this country is run, and why I wish I lived in a civilized society. Hell, even Cuba would be better than this - at least their folks are covered by universal health care (along with having a ridiculously high literacy rate).

Not for something serious. I can go to a clinic for lesser things, but for something that might require hospitalization, I'm shit out of luck, yeah.

I completely agree with you about health insurance in this country. It's barbaric that the self-proclaimed "greatest nation" can't do better by its citizens.

Thank you, hon. I keep wondering how people who don't have a living situation where they can let the rent slide a couple of weeks even make it. As it is, things are really fucking cramped for me this year, and this possible medical problem is the last thing I need.

I'm afraid I can't worry about paying for it afteward. I wish I could. But things have been bad enough for long enough that I can't take the risk. I'm literally down to deciding whether to pay the rent or the electric bill, so saddling myself with a crushing debt is not an option for me. I wish things were better, but they aren't.

Please forgive me being so insistent as to be obtuse, but have you tried dialing 411 and asking if there is a free clinic? Some service might put you in touch with a doctor that treats pro-rated by income? I know they can do prescriptions like that in some counties There might be a program you are unaware of for your area. I just feel that your illness has gone on so long, that a doctor needs to see you, sweetie. And it might not require a hospital, but at least find out? The health care system in this country is a mess but sometimes there are groups that step in and help when you need it. I know you are ill but please try.
