Considering the direction things have taken on LJ for me, I'm actually thinking about abandoning this LJ entirely. It seems the only posts that get lots of traffic are my fic posts, and while I love getting the feedback, that's not the only reason I'm here. Maybe I've worn out my welcome, who knows. It's not like it would be the first time that had happened. It's not that big a deal for me, but I'm a little tired of posting things I think are really cool, only to get very little or no response at all. Starts to seem a waste of time, you know?

So I may end up closing this LJ to everything except fic posts (and those will probably be few on the ground), and taking up another LJ that won't have the baggage associated with it that this one does. Plus fandom isn't really my thing anymore, so there's that too.

Any thoughts?

I’m probably in a minority, but I’ve never understood why people change journals as a result of changes in fandom participation when LJs (unlike message boards, for example) are “you centric” and evolve along with one’s interests. Of course some people will have only friended a journal for one specific type of post, so the fact that there’s always going to be a time lag between changing interests and aquiring new and enthusiastic members of your FL means that the level of responses to posts will wax and wane - but I’d prefer living through the lean times to having all the hassle of upping sticks and start all over again.

One of the reasons I've seen people do it is that LJs acquire baggage. I've seen friends lists get poisoned with resentment and bitchiness against people, and I can totally understand why a person would want to flee from that to a fresh space.

I can understand it if you have problems on your old LJ that can't be resolved, but most of the instances I've witnessed/experienced are people saying "I've done with this fandom, I'm off to be someone else in a new one". That always strikes me as odd, because nearly everyone has interactions with the people on their lists that go beyond the fandom they happen to share.

Anyhow, I hope you'll leave me on the list.

I fled a fandom in just that way - the Keanu fandom. I used to go under a different handle in those days, but there are some SERIOUSLY crazy, ugly people in that fandom, and there was nastiness (stalking behavior and such) that I witnessed, and I wanted shut of it. (Not here on LJ, though. I didn't hit LJ until I was well into LOTR.) My LOTR handle is different mainly so that none of the batshit crazies from Keanu fandom would follow me. And believe me, some of them would.

Sounds nasty! Fortunately, on the rare occasions that I have come to the notice of the less sane elements of fandom they have discovered there's very little mileage in baiting someone as relentlessly tedious as me :)
