Oh my god, that makes cry. :-( And I fear the poor polar bear won't be far behind.

And I just looked up some more info about this, and could not believe that the Baiji dolphin had been around for 20 million years. And humans have pretty much decimated it since the 1950's. People suck.

We've certainly proved the masters of that art, as far as the planet goes.

Yep. The polar bears will probably be the next to go, although that will be in the wild. There are quite a few of them in captivity, so it may be that the species will linger for a while yet. But somehow I find the idea of the only remaining individuals living their whole lives in captivity more depressing than the species disappearing. How would we feel if the only humans left in the world were the ones living in jail?

As a species, the one thing we excel at (besides destruction) is not feeling any shame whatsoever.

It is my opinion that if we can feel shame as individuals, or even as nations (which we can), we bloody well ought to be able to feel it as a species. Of course, that probably won't happen until we're all subsumed in the oncoming tsunamis. I just hope that when we are, there will still be critters who'll survive and eat us.
