HELP!

All you folks out there who are experienced with PS, I've got a problem I'd like some help with, if you wouldn't mind.

I'm running PS 6.0, and finding that suddenly I can't layer text in any kind of color. Whether I'm trying to put text on an existing color photo, or starting from a blank (RGB) file, it will only allow black or white text. I've tried selecting the color before I start typing, and also typed in text, selected it and tried to change the color, all to no avail. I've also tried restarting the computer, and even dumped Photoshop and re-installed it - zilch.

There's never been a problem doing this before - as you can see from my icons. I have no idea why PS would suddenly refuse to give me color text. Have any of you encountered this problem, or have any ideas as to why it's happening? It's driving me freakin' NUTS!

Any help would be appreciated.

ETA: Thanks to those of you who posted. I discovered that the whole thing was due to a mistake so vastly moronic that I categorically REFUSE TO ADMIT WHAT IT WAS. Suffice it to say that calling me stupid would be an insult to stupid people. 'Nuff said.

Hmmm - something like that happened to me when I dumped my cookies by mistake and lost all my preferences. Here's what I did:

- make sure that your pic is a .jpg and not a .bmp or .targ;
- the image mode should be set to rgb color;

If the above isn't the problem, open a new file with the same dimensions as your pic. Move the pic over to the new frame. Try again with the new file.

I hope this helps, 'cause I've shot my wad. :)

Thanks for the advice, hon. But I've done all those, and no dice. I'm just stewing here. I mean, it's not a huge deal, but it drives me crazy to have something like this go wrong and not be able to fix it. Grrrrr.

Reminds me slightly of what happens to me when I absent-mindedly try to change the color in the color-select box down in the paintbrush tools palette and then switch over to the text palette and somehow expect the color to be the one I just selected on the other palette. Slightly.

I got your email and sent you instructions on how to delete your prefs. This should initialize Photoshop. These instructions are for Win 2000, if you are not on that, you are looking for the Application Data on your C: drive to find your preferences.

Thanks, hon!

I found the problem. As I posted in my edit above, the problem was due to a mistake of truly gargantuan idiocy. I appreciate your usual willingness to help a ninny like myself.

*hug*
