I've got a job!!

It's only a temp job, but it's for 3 months ('til the end of October) at the state insurance office right near me, about 15 minutes from my house. Good pay, regular hours. So I won't have to worry about my rent or bills for a while. Yay!

Also, no more commuting for 2 hours each day, spending tons on gas and driving in the LA heat. AND no more bullshit like what happened the last day at my last temp assignment. Clash with an incredibly uppity little snotnose who took it on herself to start yelling at me in front of the whole office. I couldn't believe the rudeness of that little bitch. Missy Princess of the place - according to the manager (who's heartily sick of her), the only reason she's been there for so long is that the boss has a crush on her.

Of course, she chose a weekend when both the boss and the manager were out of town to pull this crap. I'm thinking about calling Gloria (manager lady) this weekend and letting her know exactly what happened, 'cause uh, NO. At least I can say with great pride that I did not get up and leave as was my first instinct. I've never left an assignment in the middle of the day like that, and I wasn't about to start then. But I did corner Missy Thing and rake her over the coals for her bitchy behavior.

What I really couldn't believe was when she started accusing me of slagging off on the job. Oh, bitch, you did NOT just go there. This is a chick who's been reprimanded a number of times for her shoddy work due to her talking to her boyfriend on the phone for hours while she's entering data in the computer. So you can just imagine how her bitching at me about messing around went down.

Still, I stood my ground and let her have it. Apparently, I'm worth my salt, because the next day the agency was on the phone asking if I would still go in to work. I blew them off with by saying I had an appointment the next day, because if I'd started in on the fiasco, I'd never have let up. I actually did have an appointment to sign up for work at another agency, but it doesn't really matter, as the assignment was only for those two days, and they had extended it at the very last minute, which they're not really supposed to do. Whether or no, though, there is no fucking way in hell I am ever working in the same office with that bitch again.

I'm a little sorry it ended like that, because I've been on and off there for almost a year, but like I said, too far to travel for too little money, etc., etc. PonyGirl (that's what Spike calls her) and her bullshit were just the icing on the cake. Bad enough to get me right out that door, though. I am hoping it doesn't cause too much trouble for Spike (who was carpooling over there with me), but hey, as a wise man once said,

Life's too short to drink bad wine.

So here's hoping things will look up from now on.

YAY!! Didn't you leave that quote in my journal when I walked out of my last job? It's so beautiful and so appropriate. I'm so happy for you! And I'm so glad you cut Miss Thang down a peg or two, that little shit.

WHEE!

Thanks!

Yes, I did leave that quote for you. Just love it, applies so well to so many occasions. And yeah, fuck that noise. Who needs it?

Three months at the pay I'll be getting means I can buy a few things I need for my house, and if the assignment goes longer, I might be able to do an overhaul on my poor pooter, as well.

*dancing happy dance*

Go you! A 3 month job is damn near like a real job. (I'm just coming off both a 3 and a 4 month one, so yeah. I know.)

And not having to get on the freeways? A Very Good Thing.

*can't agree on that quote, though. Wine? Never a bad thing. OK, except for maybe Thunderbird*

Thanks!!

However, I have four words for you - Wine In A Box.

'Nuff said.

Hee! Are you kidding? That was the best I used to be able to do. And it beats no wine.

I have now (she announces proudly) graduated to Gallo.

Argh

No, thanks. I don't drink to get plastered. The rare occasions when I drink wine, it's for a pleasant experience, which fruit vinegar ain't (at least in my book). Same reason I don't smoke ditch weed anymore. I'd rather drink a couple of bottles of good wine a year than the kind of stuff I could actually afford regularly.

But I freely admit that's just me. :)

You and the [livejournal.com profile] goddes both have lucked out with the three-month assignments. Three months is long enough to do a bit of longer-term planning with -- and who knows? If it goes well sometimes temps are hired on as permanent employees -- it's happened to me before...

Well, having worked my first day there, I won't be heartbroken if it's just a temp job. It seems like a nice place, and the pay and all is good, but the work is BEYOND boring. Perfectly happy to do it 'til October, but there'll have to be a number of good aspects that I haven't discovered yet to get me to take it as a permanent job. But I am very happy about the change in fortunes, yes.

congrats hon!!!

Congrats, Serai! I hope this one turns into something more interesting. You never know where a job will take you--I can certainly attest to that. And maybe this one has hidden virtues or the prospect of something better. In any event, at least there is money. :)
