That's the good thing about living in Europe and not having too much money; I simply know it's utterly impossible for me to go to things like ORC, so I'm not even worrying about it. I had the same thing with the Oscar party and Comic Con. Things like Collectormania or the Fellowship Festival, on the other hand, are entirely different matters... ;)

But don't you live in LA? I'm going to be there, but I'm only going to one party (don't know which one yet). I'm there not to see the celebrities but to see people I've "met" on LJ.

Come for that reason alone! It would be wonderful to meet you. Maybe a bunch of us can have lunch, or at least coffee. It would be so much fun to actually say the words "Elijah" and "Sean" and "Billy" out loud, don't you think? I mean, I can talk to my husband and a couple RL friends, but not nearly to the extent that I really want to.

So come, please, even if just for a few hours.

*sigh* I don't even know if I can afford one party. It's all awfully expensive. $65 for a party is a fuck of a lot of money, when I haven't even been to a movie in a month. I've got a lot of bills right now, and I just can't see squeezing that out. Maybe in a couple of weeks, but I've not idea if there will still be tickets by the time I have the bucks. Maybe. Like I say, I'm starting to want to go, but...don't know.

I wouldn't feel right asking people for money for myself, though. It's not like I'm starving or anything, LOL. I'm trying to hit eBay hard this weekend. Perhaps I'll get enough money there to go. I've just put up an auction that would get me the money all by itself, if there's a fan out there insane enough to pay the kind of money I'm asking. (I know there are, as I used to be one - it's just a matter of finding 'em!) With luck, I'll be able to scrape it together. I just hope the tickets will still be there when I do!

I'm up for whenever you want to get together. Since the con starts Friday, probably that week would be best. I can ask for some time off, as my new supervisor is very cool about it, so long as I give enough notice (she said she'd only need a couple of weeks). Then, if I do end up going, we can hook up there after a couple of days of getting to know each other!

What are you selling on Ebay? Something I might be interested in?

I'm definitely going, booked the flight and hotel already and now just have to see which photographs I can afford. I really want all 4 hobbitses (i just know Dom is gonna show), so I'm holding out for that.

As for the money, shit yeah it's expensive and of course there's lots of other things I could spend my discretionary income on, but I figure, I work my ass off all week and don't do much on the weekends, so why not live a little? It's also helped me out of this funk too.

I'd be glad to help ya out, but if you can't make it, I'd love to figure out a way to see you!

I'll email you my info and you can decide what you want to do. I'm hoping to get the money through eBay, like I said. (though I don't think you'd want the item I mentioned above, as it's a Keanu item from my days with that fandom.) I just hope the con doesn't sell out.

I'm not really a photo op girl. What I'd love is to have the other hobbits sign my LOTR Fanclub mags. That would be super. So I guess this con is a good opportunity, as I already have Dom's signature on his cover!
