FBI shuts down MegaUpload


For those of you who don't know, MegaUpload is the biggest file-sharing website on the web. We're talking millions of users, and a whole sagan of files, many of them LEGITIMATE content that their owners have now lost. I guess those people are just SOL.

Savor the flavor, people. This is what the media hogs want - no content available anywhere unless THEY get paid.

I can't tell you how many people I argued with during the blackout who said that if people weren't pirating things, they had nothing to worry about. I used megaupload to transfer large work data files between collaborators. It was so much easier than trying to work around filesize limits at the institutions we work for. Between the greed of the media moguls and the censorship tendencies of the government, we are all screwed. (And I'm probably being put on a secret list somewhere for saying that.)

Yep. See, this is where "law enforcement" has gotten to. They don't give a shit about innocent people anymore, they just take care of their corporate masters, and to hell with anybody who gets in the way.

It would be interesting to see some enterprising lawyer gather up all the people who were righteously fucked by this move for a nice big class-action lawsuit against the FBI, the MPAA and the RIAA.
